Taiwan Issues New National Public-Safety Guide To 10m Taiwanese Households

The agency under the Ministry of National Defense (MND) has released three editions of the handbook since 2022, covering information from preparation of go-bags to survival tips during natural disasters and war. Compared with the previous edition, released in 2023, the current version has a clearer focus on wartime scenarios.

UK becomes newest full partner of the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday welcomed the UK in joining Taiwan, the US, Japan, Australia and Canada as the newest full partner of the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF).

The ministry’s statement was released after British Representative to Taiwan Ruth Bradley-Jones earlier yesterday announced the UK’s decision to join the GCTF.

The framework was launched in 2015 by Taiwan and the US as a platform to enable Taiwan to share its expertise on global issues and contribute alongside global partners, as Taipei has been sidelined at major international organizations due to pressure from Beijing.

Taiwan, U.K. sign MOU to expand cooperation in satellite assembly and technical training

AIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Space Agency and the UK’s Satellite Applications Catapult signed a five-year deal on Tuesday to expand cooperation in satellite assembly and technical training.

The signing coincided with the UK-Taiwan Space Roundtable, co-hosted by TASA and the British Office in Taipei. The event gathered tech companies to discuss low-Earth orbit satellite partnerships and sustainable applications, per CNA.

Warship transits in Strait ‘routine,’ US and UK say

The UK on Friday said that the sailing of the HMS Richmond through the Taiwan Strait was a routine passage that was in compliance with international law.

“HMS Richmond’s navigation through the Taiwan Strait was a routine passage as part of Carrier Strike Group 25,” a spokesperson for the British Ministry of Defence said.

The group, led by the HMS Prince Wales, is on a seven-and-a-half-month global deployment to the Indo-Pacific region that started on April 22.

National tech adviser opens UK pavilion at SEMICON 2025

U.K. National Technology Adviser Dave Smith opened the UK’s pavilion at SEMICON Taiwan 2025 in Taipei Wednesday. Smith said 34 British firms are exhibiting this year, a record high, and pointed to the U.K.’s new industrial strategy aimed at strengthening its semiconductor sector. Smith said the U.K., home to the world’s third-largest technology sector, was fully behind strengthening its semiconductor industry, noting that it had launched a new industrial strategy in June. Also in attendance was U.K. Representative to Taiwan Ruth Bradley-Jones, who praised Taiwan’s “cutting-edge” strengths in semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
